ELITE NATIONAL TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS QUALIFIER

It was another exciting weekend of racing with the powerful women of Proman. There were a lot of first times… oh-I-guess-I’ll-try-it, even though I have no idea what I’m doing.

Emily smoked the 3k, blowing her competition away! But when she came into the pit, barely out of breath and saying how much fun she had, everybody, including Emily knew that next time she will be much, much faster. I think she said her goal for Elite State championships is 16 seconds faster!!! Gotta love the confidence, after only one race!!

Tracey dominated the 200m tt, followed by matched sprints. Even with the bad-girl moves thrown down by the young Davis girl (bumping bars, trying to cause a crash), Tracey out-sprinted everyone for the gold! Receiving advice from every single person at the track (and some of it actually accurate) Tracey took everything in stride, and earned some serious respect from all. Tracey also showed her sprint in the Keiren with a silver

Niki as usual was very aggressive out there. She pushed the limit on her start of the 500m race… unfortunately a bit too much on her first try and was called for a false start. No big deal because you get a 2nd chance. I think that caused her to hesitate a bit on her next start, but she still ended up with a PR! Her new favourite race is the keiren where she picked up bronze behind Tracey. This race can typically be aggressive with lots of bumping reminiscent of her days racing thoroughbreds!

The field of competitors in the 500m was pretty tough, including my team mates of course. My time wasn’t my best, but enough to squeak out a bronze and get Proman on the podium! I know what I need to work on before Elite States.

The Team Pursuit on Sunday was a good learning experience. It was a little frustrating because the officials goofed up the lap cards, so we did the 3-riders-sprint-to the-finish-line twice (thank you Tracey)! Overall we had good communication and good form, but a few minor mishaps that we learned from. The king of pursuit, Larry Nolan provided us with very valuable advice before and after the race. Bottom line… we won the gold, but more importantly we have a good list of things to practice before Elite States!

My favorite event the Team Sprint was SO FUN! I have done this event with Shelley, Niki, Helene and now Tracey, who had a screaming fast 24 second lap two! One more gold… I simply can’t lose with a Proman team mate!!! Thank you all for doing this race with me!
